Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies relevant documentation, policies and procedures

implements the requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective and efficient supporting of underground shotfiring operations including:

applying personal and operational safety requirements

applying explosives and detonators handling requirements and procedures

demonstrates completion of supporting underground shotfiring operations that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

planning to support shotfiring

establishing, securing and isolating shot site

drilling holes to pattern design

flushing or cleaning and testing drill holes

applying explosion inhibitor

identifying and reporting any deteriorated explosives and accessories

handling and transporting explosives

loading and stemming explosives

clearing the site


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of the following when supporting underground shotfiring operations:

site personnel and operational safety requirements

types and characteristics of explosives and protection measures associated

shotfiring equipment characteristics, technical capabilities and limitations, site

geological and survey data essential to shotfiring

site environmental requirements and constraints related to shotfiring including blast monitoring systems

physical and technical quality of explosives, interpreting and applying legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures
